The hotel was originally built in 1880 and was the first hotel in Vietnam. It features colonial architecture, a three-floor building, brick roof, thick brick walls to keep out the tropical summer heat, 80 spacious rooms with high ceilings to take advantage of natural light and the breeze, a large corridor and a sunny terrace. Facilities at this air-conditioned establishment include a lobby with 24-hour reception, a hotel safe and currency exchange facilities, a café, bar and restaurant, conference facilities, room service and a laundry service.
The hotel offers daily American buffet breakfast in both the air-conditioned restaurant and open air patio. Lunch and dinner are offered as set menus or à la carte.

It is within walking distance of most major attractions and offers easy access to festivals and events. Numerous restaurants and nightlife options can be found within about 5 minutes' walk, shopping at the Ben Thanh Market is also some 5 minutes' walk away, and the bus station is around 10 minutes' walk from the property. Nearby sights include Notre Dame, around 5 minutes' walk away, the Reunification Palace, some 8 minutes away, and the War Museum, around 15 minutes' walk away. The Cu Chi Tunnels can be reached in about a 90-minute drive. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is around 7 km from the hotel.
