Lanzarote Region

About Lanzarote

Lanzarote has been declared Reserve of the Biosphere by the UNESCO because of the perfect symbiosis between man and nature. It's known as Fire Island and it has a peculiar lunar landscape as a result of the eruption of hundreds of volcanoes that swept fields and villages giving a reddish tone to the land which contrasts with the beaches of white and scarlet sand, the turquoise blue sea, the brightness of the sun and the pure white of its houses. Also, the wind and the water have molded some incredible landscapes.

Moving around

The bus service, called guaguas, connects the different towns of the island. You can also move around comfortably with the taxi. Besides, the ferry service will take you around the island and to the rest of the Canary Islands.

Out & About

You can't miss any corner of this little but intense island. Timanfaya National Park, the Volcanoes Route and all its beaches which you can enjoy all year long because the average of the water temperature is 20º. The most amazing ones are those called Papagayo and Famara although there are different beaches that will fit the needs and likings of each traveler. Teguise is perfect for windsurf and Arrieta for surf; Órzola is made up by white dunes and in Playa Blanca you'll find white sand and crystal clear waters. Mirador del Río, Jameos del Agua or Jardín de Cactus are also key stops on your trip around the island. But Lanzarote is not all about the beach, the villages have also their special charm. For example, Haría, which is known as the village of the ten thousand palm trees, next to Órzola beach. Lanzarote is the perfect destination for diving thanks to its amazing seabed. Besides, surfers find here one of the best places of the world where they can enjoy their passion for the waves. Graciosa island is also worth a visit. You'll have to take the ferry in Órzola for that. At night, you can chill having a drink outside the bars in Playa Blanca although the most festive atmosphere is concentrated in Puerto del Carmen.

Shopping

In Arrecife, you should head for the best commercial street, Calle Real. Here you'll find all kinds of shops where you can buy books, wine or other typical products. To find clothes and other surf accessories, go to Puerto del Carmen where you'll also find clothes beach style. In the fishing village of Teguise, every afternoon, there's a market where the artisans sell their own products. Furthermore, in Playa Honda you'll find a big shopping mall with everything they usually offer: restaurants, shops, movie theaters, etc.

What's cooking?

As should be expected, the gastronomy of Lanzarote includes many fish and seafood next to a wide variety of wines and goat cheese. Some typical dishes are papas arrugadas (potatoes boiled with the peel), mojo sauce, queso majorero (a kind of cheese) fish stew.

Weather

Lanzarote can brag of living in an endless spring thanks to a temperature of 21º average, so any time of the year is perfect to enjoy the island.

Don't think about it anymore, jump on the plane and fly to the Moon on the Earth, the island of Lanzarote.
