Moving around

In spite of the immensity of the city of London, it's easy to move around thanks to the public transport. Its 13 Tube lines will take you everywhere. In London, you can buy almost anything. You can't leave the city without taking English tea in your suitcase. Oxford Street and Regent Street are probably two of the main shopping streets of the city; the original Harrods store is located in Knightsbridge; in Covent Garden you'll find the most fashionable shops while Bond Street is riddled with luxury stores. If what you're looking for is something a little bit more alternative, then your destination is Camden Town. Most of its shops sell gothic clothes and accessories or are tattoo studios but you can also find all kinds of curious stuff and food stands. The best day to go is Sunday. Portobello Road Market is one of the most famous markets in town and there you can find antiques, furniture, etc.

What's cooking?

The traditional tea ceremony is still part of the British way of life. Some of the typical dishes of the islands are: Roast Beef, Fish and chips, Steak and Kidney Pie, and, for dessert, the delicious Apple Pie. The best places to eat are Covent Garden district with its wide variety of restaurants and the Soho, where you'll enjoy a good dish of Chinese food.

The weather in London is pretty cool and damp in winter and a bit warmer in summer although the climate is pretty unpredictable. European Union citizens just need an ID card to go to London. It's a pretty safe city full of surveillance cameras on the streets but, as always, you'll have to be wary of pickpockets if you don't want to have an unpleasant surprise.
