The hotel is part of the Izmailovo hotel complex built in 1980 before the Moscow Olympic Games. The Izmailova Vega was built in 1978 in time for the Moscow Olympics on the site of the historic Izmailova village and Royal Estate where Peter the Great grew up. The hotel is just outside the centre but Izmailovsky Metro Station is just across the road and only six stops to Red Square.
