Positive: No one at front desk at approximately 4pm. Rang bell several times. Other guests with luggage in lobby informed me they tried to get someone 20min. Prior. Wife went to lobby restroom and was not clean, no paper towels. We left and found another hotel. When we talked to a local later that day the informed us they had long term tenants and known sex offenders stay there. NOT GOOD. Lucky we left.
Positive: the road noise was so bad. it was very hard to sleep.
Positive: Room was large, bed was comfy
Negative: Bathroom was so dirty. Shower floor was black with dirt and a dirty wash cloth hung from the shower bar. Let's not even mention the lack of toilet paper. We informed the kids at the desk who were outside smoking (emphasis on kids) and they assured us they'd take care of it. They did not when we came back to the room hours later. In this day and age, all rooms should have a USB port. I know the Plains is old but buy a lamp with a port
Positive: historical
Negative: it wasnt very clean, no hand soap, no hangers, no info., about hotel, no art, no mirrior, big fridge? dirty carpet and windows
Positive: The location was great to everything planned while in town
Negative: Hour long wait to check-in, trash from previous people in room, no towels, grimy floor that was stained, unsafe parking situation
Positive: The location
Negative: They didn’t have our room ready for hours. They were cleaning them one by one as people showed up. We are pretty sure they didn’t clean it at all. It was dirty, the hotel is extremely outdated. I asked for a discount since we were not able to get into our room the man at the desk gave me a card for the manager that never did answer the phone or my email. It cost over 350.00 a room. Do not book this hotel. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 for any reason.
Positive: The breakfast-waffles, coffee, fruit and yogurt, were delightful.
Negative: N/a
Positive: The location is great.
Negative: The place needs to be completely remodeled or demolished , our room was not ready at 7:00pm and we had to wait an hour. Broken tiles, cracks in walls, bathroom floor feels like it’s going to cave it, poor lighting, broken chair, honestly the website pictures are probably 30 years old. We contemplated driving back to Colorado to find a room
Positive: Downtown location
Negative: Front desk staff was basically apathetic when we checked in, rooms weren't ready because they were still cleaning. We had a queen room which was very small. Outdated bathroom. The carpet in the room was filthy. Holes in the blanket. Flat, uncomfortable pillows. Constant drip in bathroom faucet. There was no hand soap in the bathroom. The AC barely worked, we had to use a box fan that was in the closet. There was plaster bubbling and peeling on the ceiling, looked like it was from a water leak. Then, pieces of plaster fell off the ceiling onto my head. I told the front desk manager about it when we checked out, and he was unconcerned. No apology, he said he just guessed he'll have to have someone look at it. We will NEVER stay here again. What a ripoff.
Positive: The history and great location
Negative: Rooms could use a little updating Hand soap would be nice It would be fabulous if the restaurant could be re-opened Having a shuttle to and from the fairgrounds would be incredibly helpful
Positive: Staff was excellent and the historic hotel was wonderful
Negative: Everything was good.
Positive: I understand it's a very old hotel and they they want to keep the ambiance of an old historic hotel but the windows were filthy. You could not see out of them a lot of dirt and dust behind curtains. We were not informed that doors are locked at eleven o'clock at night, and they do not tell you what door to come in.Thank goodness somebody was in the lobby that let us in. The closest parking for the hotel was 2 blocks away and could only accommodate about 20 cars than the one. After that was about eight blocks away that you had to walk through muddy parking lot and pools of water to get out of.
Positive: Nostalgic
Negative: Bathroom old. Tub leaked/ran all night Cleaners left trash and cleaning supplies.
Positive: The Plains Hotel opened in 1911, I am sure at the time it was a modern marvel. Not so anymore. We came to Cheyenne for Cheyenne Frontier Days and two concerts held there. The Plains location across the street from the train depot is perfect. Lots of options for food or shopping. The hotel I would call quaint, as in it needs a major upgrade to its rooms and facilities. I like older hotels they have character new ones don't. My room was a good size, the bed while not the most comfortable was good enough and a king size bed, liked that. At check-in I was told by the staff if you get to the room and there are no towels or toilet paper call us and we will bring some to you. I thought that a but odd. It was explained due to staffing issues the hotel may have missed something and that prior guests were taking towels from their stay, I guess as mementos. Taking a shower was hit or miss with hot water, not sure why it was this way. The rooms have window air conditioning- that being said the room temp was comfortable. Cheyenne in late July can be hot, but the room wasn't. We had an almost full-size refrigerator in our room an unexpected plus. The furniture while functional needs updating. The elevator is small and slow, so we usually took thecstairs. The staff was very accommodating and apologetic. The bar at the Plains might be its highlight. The staff was great and you can people watch inside and outside on the street. When I was in the service we had a saying "set your sights low and you won't be disappointed" as far as expecting were concerned. This applies to the Plains. Would I stay at the Plains again, not sure but life is funny sometimes you might find based on location it's the place to go.
Negative: Old and outdated.
Positive: The rooms were dirty, the bathroom, leaking faucets, I know it’s old but it needs work
Positive: LOCATION - that is the #1 reason I WOULD stay here again. It is situated right downtown, in the middle of everything and an easy drive or walk to all you'd need during a trip to Cheyenne. Parking is simple, we were able to park on the street right outside the hotel one night & opted to park in one of the lots they offer the other nights. Breakfast was offered, we didn't indulge as we wanted to experience local cuisine. IT'S ALSO CHARMING. There is so much history in this hotel, I could have spent hours wondering around, looking at artifacts and reading signs. If you appreciate historic places, you must at least stop in, even if you don't spend the night.
Negative: Do not book this hotel if you have boujee taste. It's outdated (in the best ways, in some aspects) and there are not the same comforts as a modern hotel. Rooms are average size, not large. There are several spots that need new paint, there was a leaky ceiling by the entrance...do not come here with expectations that it will match aesthetic of a hotel built in 2025 and you will be really pleased.
Positive: Location, look, history great
Negative: no room service over 4 days, no bringing up fresh towels or toilet paper without special request, dirty, dark rooms, bouncy beds. Hotel has great potential but needs to fix some issues
Positive: Very authentic Old West hotel in a very good, very walkable location.. The staff is excellent, especially the Manager, Michael.
Negative: This couldn't be helped because it was the first weekend of Cheyenne Rodeo but I believe EVERY motorcycle between here and Sturgis was roaring up and down the street until 2 am 😊 .Quiet during weeknight. Although the view is beautiful of The Depot, I would recommend and inner hall room for more peace and quiet. Breakfast is a 1.5 out of 5.
Positive: manager was great
Negative: everything
Positive: Canceled our reservation so that could resell our rooms for a higher rate. Complete fraud!
Positive: Great Lication
Negative: Everything could be better. Very expensive because of Cheyenne Frontier Days.
Positive: nice historical room
Negative: very limited parking
Positive: Comfy bed, nice linens, large suite, quirky ambiance in lobby, fun bar downstairs, perfect location.
Negative: Tired furnishings, broken window, dirty windows, street noise, carpet needs replacement.
Positive: Booking. Com booked us into a FULL HOTEL WITH NO AVAILABLE ROOMS. Contacting booking.com is impossible.
Negative: Being booked into a totally full hotel.
Positive: I like the location and the charm of the lobby.
Negative: The ac did not cool the room. They wouldn’t change our room. All they could do was loan us a noisy box fan that was loud and kept us awake most of the night.
Positive: The sign in book and the original stature of the building
Negative: I didn't like the view or locked window in our room
