Located in a sixteenth-century building that was once the Benedictine monastery of San Zaccaria, the hotel retains a number of features characteristic of Gothic-Renaissance works of the period, and is named Le Isole in honour of the owner's undying love for Venice and its fascinating history: it was to le isole, the islands in the lagoon, that the local population fled from the countryside during the Barbarian invasions in the mid-fifth century B.C., without which the powerful Serenissima Republic could never have been founded.
