The Criterion Hotel, formally the Regatta Hotel Complex opened its doors on the 26th April 1996. It has undergone extensive re-modelling and refurbishing. It is Perth's oldest hotel with a licence since 1840.
The Criterion Hotel has the best of both worlds - the old and the new. The art-deco façade and some parts of its interior are being preserved as part of the Heritage Conservation effort to enhance the old style ambience of the area surrounding Hay Street.
The rooms, lobby and its restaurants have been designed to incorporate the style of yester year yet achieving a modern day look through studied creative designing.

Criterion cafe, with outdoor seating, located on the street level, separate entrance to the hotel serving a large selection of local and international foods. There is a Tavern in the basement, very popular with locals and visitors.
Rooms are Heritage style, and vary in size, depending on which part of the building they are in. Some are medium in size while others are very large indeed and all have high ceilings. They have air conditioning, fridge, 20-inch colour TV, personal safe, tea/coffee makers, hair dryer. All rooms are ept in great condition as are the bathrooms. Excellent standard of housekeeping.
