The charming historical hotel has been recently renovated (in 2006) to create one of the most stunning hideaways on the south coast. The building dates from 1575 and has an enviable heritage; it even has an original Georgian ballroom used for lavish weddings and banquets. An eclectic and contemporary design has been given to this historic establishment using a wide range of antique and modern furniture, materials and local art. The result is a comfortable blend of old and new, creating an atmosphere which is relaxed, informal and individual. Guests are welcomed in a lobby with 24-hour reception and check-out services. There is a café, bar, pub and restaurant on the premises as well as conference facilities for business travellers. Guests can also take advantage of the room and laundry services on offer (fees apply to both). There is a total of 24 guest rooms available.
The menu has Mediterranean influences and food is presented simply with respect for fresh and seasonal ingredients, sourced from the local farms around Rye, Sussex and Kent. Much of the fish and seafood is freshly caught by the trawlers of Rye Bay.
The focus of the bedrooms is comfort. Sourcing the finest double beds and linen on the market was the starting point. Each bedroom was then individually designed with its own fabrics, colour scheme and bespoke furniture. Beautiful en suite bathrooms with marble-top baths with chrome power showers and REN products and a hairdryer followed. Then add a few gadgets to complete the experience - flat screen LCD TVs with satellite/cable TV channels, a DVD library, Tivoli clock radios and broadband Internet access (fees apply). Each room also has tea and coffee making facilities and its own terrace.

How to arrive
The hotel is located in the centre of Rye, East Sussex, which is quite unlike any other town in England. A medieval townscape locked in time and with a fascinating history, it offers a great escape for relaxation or romance. Four miles from the white beach of Camber Sands, the sea air is wonderful at any time of year. There are restaurants, bars and pubs in the immediate vicinity and the train station is approximately 400 m from the hotel.
By car: take the M25 (anti-clockwise) to Junction 5, then the M26 (signposted Maidstone) to the M20. Leave the M20 at Junction 10 and take the A2070 signposted to Lydd and Brenzett. Follow the A2070 to the Brookland roundabout (Total petrol station) junction, then take the A259 (straight on) signed to Rye and Hastings. This road continues onto Rye.
