The Original Raj Hotel is the U.K's first Indian themed Hotel and was opened by Lady Shakira Caine in Spring 2000. All rooms are furnished with Indian hardwood furniture handmade in Jaipur from recycled Australian railway sleepers. All bedrooms are en-suite with both a bath and shower. The bedrooms are of a high standard. The Hotel is situated in the up-market Murrayfield area of Edinburgh, 1 mile west of the City Centre, on the A8 which leads to Edinburgh Airport and thence to Glasgow. We not have a private car-park but safe parking is available in streets adjacent to and behind the Hotel (Pay and Display Mon - Fri 8.30 am - 5.30 pm). We have no bar or restaurant but guests who bring their own are provided with glasses or plates and cutlery. There is no restaurant, but continental breakfast is served in the lounge.
It is a traditional Georgian building, set back from the roadside. Statuettes of elephants stand sentry at the entrance.
The rooms are all individually designed with furnishings and fabrics from India. All bedrooms are large and named after districts and aspects of colonial India. There is an attention to detail, such as a movie reel and an old film camera in the 'Bollywood' room. The bathrooms are very sumptuous and tiled with original Indian tiles.

This hotel is situated a short walk from Haymarket station, in the west end of Edinburgh. The airport is less than a 15-minute drive, and Princes Street is less than 5 minutes by taxi.
