Positive: I do love reading about the history of the building.
Negative: Could use more plugs/outlets closer to the bed.
Positive: Front desk staff were friendly and aimed to please; the woman who checked us into our rooms directed us to delicious + beautiful restaurant nearby, Seabird. Staff in bar was great, really amiable.
Negative: No Air Conditioning! Lesson learned: old buildings in London probably won't have A/C (duh) but since this was a 3-star hotel + rated 8+ on Booking.com, it didn't occur to me to check for something as basic as A/C... windows only open a few inches so even though fans were provided, it was hard to get any sort of cross-ventilation going in our room (it was better across the hallway, where my parents were staying, so at least they didn't have to sweat it out all night). ALSO, the ladies public restroom in the basement needs attention: out of 2 stalls, only 1 had a functioning light (the other 2 were pitch black) and the one with the light plus one of the dark ones was clogged beyond a basic flush. I told the gent at the front desk who said he was aware, but it didn't seem like anyone was going to fix it anytime soon. Gross.
Positive: Good value
Negative: No AC, old place with smell of food when you go in because there is a pub inside
Positive: Location is great…close to many things. The staff is truly amazing. Sami and Luke make you feel so welcome and happily provide great suggestions for things to do and see. You almost feel like you are home! The pub is exceptional with a lot of choices for drinks and food. Al is a super barkeep and goes above and beyond to provide good service. We found ourselves drinking here most evenings because of the atmosphere. The Mad Hatter is a very special place.
Negative: Nothing
Positive: Great pub and breakfast. Perfect location.
Negative: Really hot and loud. The noise was to be expected since the windows had to stay open for cooling.
Positive: The staff was amazing, very friendly and helpful. Also the breakfast was perfect 🍳👌
Positive: Sammy at the front desk was very friendly and informative for our first trip to London.
Positive: The Front desk staff were very friendly and very helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable. It's a great location about 20-25 min walk to a lot of the major attractions, a bus stop is right around the corner and it's near Black Friars station. The breakfast was excellent and a good selection. Dinner in the pub was also delicious and convenient. The room was quiet and well insulated from outside noise. We would definitely stay here again.
Negative: Like a lot of European hotels, it didn't have air conditioning but a nice quiet fan was provided and the windows could be opened.
Positive: Beautiful rooms, comfortable bed, beautiful bathroom great toiletries, breakfast were absolutely outstanding.everything was so delicious. Staff was exceptional, so friendly and helpful. Became friends will all employees. Very interesting conversation with them
Negative: Can’t think of anything
Positive: The ambiance was exceptional. The staff very friendly, we especially enjoyed conversation with Sami, Dell, Luke and Alam. They were always accomodating and fun to talk with. The location was perfect. The food was good. The rooms very comfortable and nicely decorated. The beds were very comforatable.
Negative: Nothing, we will definitely return someday.
Positive: Slightly dated but lots of English charm. The staff are the best.
Negative: Some deferred maintenance, but that’s probably part of the charm.
Positive: Love the location and uniqueness
Negative: No ac in a warm spell
Positive: The staff was the greatest! They were very helpful and friendly to us during our stay. The breakfast was delightful and one of the better breakfasts available in a hotel. The waitress was also very nice. We also found it to be reasonably close to place we could walk to. No complaints from us and would definitely stay here again.
Negative: Well the room was smaller than I had hoped for but that’s London for you!
Positive: Nice location, breakfast was included, and rooms were decent size too. Coffee and water were in your room at no extra charge so it was a nice feature. Toiletries were included too so the property had very nice features. It’s not very close to places like the London eye so if you enjoy walking, this is an ideal spot. We walked to buckingham palace it took about 35 minutes.
Negative: No air conditioning so if you stay in the warmer months, and use your being cool, this may not be the best option. Rooms don’t have a plugs by the bed so if you like charging your phone near you, that wasn’t available. Rooms had tubs which require a high step in and out, if you prefer a walk in shower this may present a challenge.
Positive: Breakfast was amazing, I expected the usual hotel breakfast but to my surprise I ordered Eggs Benedict and it was really tasty. This was in addition to usual cereals, fruits, breads etc. In addition to coffee and tea, you could order latte or any other variant you need.
Positive: Great location, comfortable king bed, friendly staff and they were kind enough to let me leave my luggage in the lobby for a few hours after checkout
Negative: Walls a bit thin, kitchen at pub closes at 10, some kind of sawing/construction noise audible from my room in the morning
Positive: This hotel was very nice - from the room, to the complimentary breakfast, to the AMAZING staff, we would definitely stay here again if we come back.
Negative: The shower in the bathroom only has a half wall of glass so the floor would get pretty wet anytime we took a shower.
Positive: The staff was so kind especially the man working at the front desks he is there most of the time. Our power converter didn’t work that we brought with us, he let us borrow one for the stay that worked. He chatted with us each day and made us feel important. The breakfast was super yummy and one server with long blonde hair was especially kind each day. We loved this cute place and would stay here again for sure! Oh I I liked the cleaning staff too, they did a great job each day in our bedroom.
Negative: The theme was really fun, and I really appreciated the breakfast each morning!
Positive: The staff were extremely friendly & welcoming. Check in & out was easy. The service was great. The room was clean & warm. The coffee machine is excellent. Fresh milk & water in the fridge. Lovely BIG fluffy towels & the toiletries smelt lovely. We ate a snack in the bar which was lovely & a realistic price. The location was perfect for the purpose of our stay. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
Negative: I would like some herbal tea bags in the room. There was plenty at breakfast.
Positive: Great location, very central, especially for the price!
Positive: Great! Stayed here for the twin bed option. In the city for one night with a friend.
Positive: Staff were incredibly friendly and shared useful local knowledge about places to visit etc. Food excellent. Very comfortable
Positive: Wonderful hotel, cozy and great location
Positive: location......room was comfortable, clean, large....bathroom was wonderful, breakfast was great
Negative: can't think of anything that could have been better
Positive: Charming boutique hotel in terrific location, between Southwark and Blackfriars stations, is charmingly managed by Sami and Luke, who are eager to please. Super comfortable. The breakfast is generous, with lots of choices. We ate dinner our first night, with a 10% discount applied, and the meat pies were the best we had all week.
Negative: Laundry service is external company, Laundry Heap, who were personable but there were errors and the quality of the service doesn't align with the cost.
Positive: We loved our stay at The Mad Hatter. We came to London for my 60th birthday. My adult daughter’s and their husband’s came as well. We arrived at the crack of dawn and the hotel let us leave our luggage with them so that we could start exploring the city. When our rooms were ready they called us. When we arrived to our room there was a banner over our bed the said “Happy Birthday “ and there were balloons all over the bed! It was a very nice personal touch! Our rooms were nice and clean, the bed was very comfy. The bathroom was nice and the water pressure was great. The breakfast was very good with many options. There was a buffet of things like pastries, croissant, yogurt, fruit… and you could also order off the menu. The pub was cute and the bar tenders were very nice. The reception was always friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay at The Mad Hatter again!
Negative: The only thing that I didn’t like was that there weren’t outlets on either side of the bed. My husband uses a Cpap and we were worried about that. He went to the front desk and they had a long extension cord and it worked perfectly. It’s an older building with charm so I guess you have to expect that it may not have all of the things that come with a more modern building.
Positive: The entrance hall and breakfast court are beautifully decorated. Location is excellent, within reasonable walking distance to the City of Westminster while in its own stunning neighborhood. Staff is super friendly.
Negative: I thought the breakfast was a little underwhelming. It combines very few buffet choices with one a la carte dish, which, while it was really good, was also on the smallish size. I mean, usually hotel breakfasts are a splurge, and this was not it. Good, but not great. I also found the room decoration a little outdated, very out of pace with such an otherwise hip hotel.
Positive: No heating in the bathroom the thermostat had been removed from the towel rail. Staff brought a heater which wasn’t adequate. We had lunch when we arrived. Just hummus for me with sourdough toast. The toast was cold and only toasted one side? We didn’t have dinner we ate elsewhere. Breakfast for me was abysmal not much choice as I’m vegan. I asked for smashed avocado with tomato on toast that’s well done on both sides. I got a smear of avocado and two thin half slices of a tomato. Miserable effort. Needless to say I don’t recommend and will never stay again.
